First Impressions
The Pitch Purple shows up in a distinctive purple color scheme and pairs a 2.57 RG and a 0.022 differential with the proven Capacitor Core. The design combines the Capacitor core of the Pitch Black with an all-new Rev-Controll solid urethane coverstock, finished out of the box at 1000 grit Abralon. This technical combination should merge the established control with Storm's signature backend behavior. The symmetrical core with its higher RG and lower differential promises a long, even roll that should come into its own on tougher lane conditions.
Comparison
Head to head with the Fever Pitch, the Rev-Controll cover shows noticeably more skid through the oil than the pearlized PWR+CTRL urethane surface. The ball offers the cleanliness of a reactive ball, but reacts far more controlled at the breakpoint than the Pitch Black. Despite its sanded solid surface and the lower-RG core, the Pitch Purple generated more length than the Fever Pitch. It's also notable that it soaks up oil faster than both the Pitch Black and the Fever Pitch. Compared to the Fast Pitch, it bridges the gap between the very early Pitch Black and the much cleaner motion, with the Fast Pitch rolling more like traditional urethane while the Pitch Purple comes across more like a muted reactive ball.
On the Lanes
The ball performs best on the drier test patterns, where the extra length allows for a stronger hook at the breakpoint and let every tester move further left and project the ball further right. Aggressive players get a license to play with power, while finesse players find their line without trouble. If you have a higher rev rate and slower ball speed in particular, you should benefit from the Capacitor Core. On over-oiled house shot conditions during league it should be a reliable option. The character is described as nearly reactive through the heads with a mix of urethane and reactive behavior on the backend, which makes it an interesting bridge between traditional urethane and modern reactive balls.
