First Impressions
The DV8 Pitbull Bite was added to the lineup in February 2018 as the new flagship for extreme oil conditions, and it shows up in an eye-catching color combination of black, yellow, and neon green. It uses the proven Pitbull Low RG Asymmetric core, which at 15 pounds carries a 2.486 RG and a high 0.055 differential, geared toward maximum rotation and flare. The key technical change is the Composite Fang Solid coverstock, developed specifically to practically interlock with the lane. This material blend is noticeably more aggressive than previous versions and comes with a dull 500/1500 Siaair factory finish. The ball is designed to find traction immediately even on the heaviest oil films and to leave a massive track in the oil.
Comparison Compared to the original DV8 Pitbull, the Pitbull Bite offers a slightly longer skid phase through the heads, but reacts considerably more powerfully in the midlane and shows stronger continuation on the backend. Where the original Pitbull tended to spend its energy very early, the Pitbull Bite should store that energy better to allow a harder hit into the pocket. Set against the Storm Phaze II, the difference between a symmetrical benchmark ball and an asymmetrical heavy-oil monster becomes clear: the Pitbull Bite reads the lane much earlier and covers considerably more boards overall than the Phaze II. Against the DV8 Pitbull Growl, the Bite offers a more controlled but still stronger overall motion, since the Composite Fang cover creates more friction in the middle of the lane. Compared to mid-performance balls such as the DV8 Turmoil Solid, the Pitbull Bite shows its superiority above all at high oil volume, where the Turmoil often reaches its limit and misses the breakpoint.
On the Lanes The DV8 Pitbull Bite is the ultimate answer for very heavy oil conditions and long oil patterns on which other balls would simply skid out. Thanks to its enormous traction, it should provide stability and confidence when the lane conditions demand maximum traction. It is particularly suited to you if you throw the ball fast or have a lower rev rate, since the asymmetrical core helps get the necessary ball motion started early. On a typical house shot it is usually "too much ball," unless you're playing very fresh oil right at the start of a session. As soon as the transition sets in and the oil in the heads gets carried away, you should move to a weaker ball to avoid hooking too early. In its ideal environment, though, it allows aggressive angles and exceptional carry, since it hits the pins with impressive force.
