First Impressions
The Piranha PowerCOR Pearl combines nostalgia with the latest technology and continues Columbia 300's tradition of bringing back popular classics with updated performance. Its striking jade/black color combination ties back to the legendary original from the '90s and makes for an eye-catcher on the lane. At the heart of the ball works the symmetrical Piranha PowerCOR, known for its versatile and adaptable performance. With an RG of 2.518 (at 15 lbs) and a differential of 0.055, it offers a balanced combination of control and hitting power. The ball is wrapped in the reactive HK22-ERT+ Pearl coverstock, which provides clean motion through the front part of the lane and a strong backend reaction. The factory finish combination of 500, 1000, 1500 Siaair followed by Factory Compound further supports these characteristics. The technology package is rounded out by DynamiCore and HyperKinetic22, resulting in improved pin action and a more dynamic ball motion. The Piranha PowerCOR Pearl is available in weights from 12 to 16 pounds and was released on February 20, 2025.

Comparison
Compared to the solid Piranha PowerCOR, the pearl version skids noticeably longer down the lane with a more explosive backend reaction. While the solid Piranha starts its hook phase more evenly and earlier, the pearl saves its energy for the last third of the lane, which results in a stronger change of direction. Against the Ricochet, the Piranha PowerCOR Pearl positions itself as a ball with less overall hook strength, but with a similarly angular motion pattern. Compared to the High Road Pearl, the Piranha shows a slightly earlier reaction with a stronger finish, while against the Virtual Energy Blackout it displays a more progressive and less abrupt change of direction. Particularly noteworthy is the similarity to the Ivory Rhino Pro, with the Piranha PowerCOR Pearl showing a marginally later reaction at comparable strength. Overall it slots in between the Cuda Pearl and the Phase AI, offering more hook than the Cuda Pearl but a more angular motion pattern than the Phase AI.

On the Lanes
The Piranha PowerCOR Pearl reaches its full potential on medium oil conditions when a combination of length and a strong backend reaction is required. It proves especially effective during the transition phase, when the front part of the lane dries up somewhat but there is still enough oil in the middle. If you have a medium to high rev rate, the ball offers enough in reserve to open up the angles while still guaranteeing consistent carry to the pocket. At lower speeds the ball develops an increasingly progressive motion that is easier to control than with many other pearl coverstocks. That makes it a good choice for a variety of styles. The Piranha PowerCOR Pearl stands out for its exceptional versatility. It can be used both for more direct lines and for steeper angles. Its strength lies in its ability to read friction well and react accordingly without becoming uncontrollable. The ball motion is characterized by a continuous change of direction that is more sweeping than abrupt, which leads to excellent pin action and good carry. To maintain optimal performance, regular surface maintenance is recommended. A light surface adjustment with a 2000 or 4000 pad can fine-tune the ball's reaction and adapt it to different lane conditions. With its strong midlane and powerful finish, the Piranha PowerCOR Pearl is a reliable option if you're looking for a versatile ball for medium oil conditions that still brings enough in reserve for a range of situations.
