First Impressions
The Pyramid Pink Moon (released September 2023) comes out as an exclusive "International Release" variant and brings a striking look to the manufacturer's high-performance line. Visually, a bold mix of pink, white and red dominates, giving the ball high visibility both on the shelf and on the lane. Underneath the colorful surface sits proven technology: the Pink Moon uses the asymmetric SG 19.5 Dual Density core, paired with the aggressive GPS Navigational ATK coverstock. With a 2.48 RG and a 0.054 differential (at 15 lbs), this core is designed to rev up early and generate plenty of flare. The surface often comes out of the box with a 2000-grit Abralon finish (dull) or a light polish, which indicates that this ball was not designed for maximum skid but for an earlier read in the heads and through the midlane. Technically it is a direct variation of the popular "Blood Moon Rising" and is aimed at bowlers looking for strong asymmetry without losing control at the breakpoint.
Comparison
Compared directly within the brand's own lineup, the Pink Moon behaves almost identically to the Pyramid Blood Moon Rising. While balls like the Pyramid Path Rising are intended more for beginners or drier lanes, the Pink Moon plays in the upper performance class. It offers noticeably more hook and an earlier response than symmetrical balls in the mid price category. Looking at other manufacturers' products, the Pink Moon fits into the category of strong asymmetric balls. Its motion resembles the character of a 900 Global Eternity Pi, though the Pyramid ball often shows a somewhat rounder move at the end of the oil. Compared to the Roto Grip Attention Star, which is known for an extremely sharp reaction, the Pink Moon comes across as a bit more controlled and reads the boards slightly earlier. It works harder in the oil than a typical benchmark ball like the Motiv Black Venom, but it does not quite provide the extreme grab of a pure "snow tire" ball for maximum oil volume. So it sits firmly in the "strong asymmetric" category, serving as the first ball out of the bag on fresh oil.
On the Lanes
The primary application for the Pyramid Pink Moon is medium-heavy to heavy oil conditions. Thanks to the strong asymmetric core and the traction-heavy cover, the ball should create enough friction not to slide through the heads even with a larger oil volume. It is ideal at the start of a league night on fresh oil, when the pocket still has to be defined. If you have a lower rev rate, the low RG value (2.48) provides valuable help in getting the ball into a roll early. Power players (crankers) will appreciate the control: the ball does not tend to overreact ("over-under" reaction) but delivers a predictable, arcing hook into the pocket. Once the transition sets in and the heads dry up, the ball may lose energy too early; at that point a switch to a polished symmetrical ball would be advisable. The Pink Moon should deliver excellent carry by using the strong entry angle to keep the pins low rather than throwing them up too high.
