The Storm Phaze Crimson makes a strong visual impression with an appealing color combination of black, red, and silver. The heart of this model is the symmetrical Velocity A.I. Core, which picks up the proven shape of the Phaze series and combines it with a further developed outer core structure. At 15 pounds, the ball delivers a 2.470 RG and a 0.053 differential, placing it in the range of high-performance symmetrical balls. Wrapped around this core is the NeX Pearl Reactive coverstock. This particular shell formulation was developed to provide an earlier read of the lane than many other pearl materials. Out of the box, the surface is dulled with a 2000 Abralon pad. This rough factory treatment is not the standard for pearl balls and signals that this ball was not designed for pure skid. The matte surface should ensure that the ball builds sufficient traction even at higher oil volumes and generates a stable motion toward the pins.

Putting the Storm Phaze Crimson up against the classic Storm Phaze II reveals interesting differences in ball reaction. The Storm Phaze II, with its solid cover, is known for extremely early control and a very round, even hook. The Phaze Crimson, on the other hand, uses its pearl cover to glide a bit more effortlessly through the heads before the core goes to work. Since it also has a heavily dulled surface, though, it won't wait for a dry backend to turn sharply, but instead builds strong rotation already in the midlane. Compared to a highly polished pearl ball like the Storm Phaze 4, the Crimson therefore offers noticeably more safety and stability through the middle boards, as it is less prone to sudden reactions at the end of the oil pattern. The integrated A.I. core should also optimize the ball's dynamics and, through a modified moment of inertia, deliver increased carry. Once the first few games are in and the lane transition sets in, the Crimson's cover allows for flexible adjustment, since it responds reliably to friction without becoming uncontrollable.

Through the combination of pearl material and matte finish, the ball is particularly well suited to situations where clean length through the heads is needed without giving up a powerful backend hook. When the oil breaks down over the course of the game and you're forced to adjust your starting position, the coverstock offers enough energy reserves to cross plenty of boards even from deeper angles.
