First Impressions
The Pyramid Pathogen stands out with its striking, all-over glowing Neon Green Solid design. Inside works the symmetrical New Era 149 core with a 2.550 RG and a strong 0.054 differential. For the cover, Pyramid relies on the GPS Navigational Solid coverstock, finished at the factory with a 2000 grit Abralon surface. These specs should mean that, despite the higher RG, the ball glides extremely safely through the heads thanks to the strong differential and the roughed-up surface, aiming for a very strong, controllable midlane reaction. The cover provides massive hold.
Comparison
In a direct comparison with the Pyramid Blueprint Pearl Project 1.618, the Pathogen shows a completely different ball motion, delivering drastically more traction in oil and a much smoother, rounder reaction at the breakpoint. Against the Storm Phaze II, the Pathogen offers a bit more length due to its higher RG, but a comparable, steady hook. When transition changes the lane and dry spots develop, the Pathogen's rough surface keeps the ball from overreacting uncontrollably at the breakpoint. It reacts with bite, but with enormous control.
On the Lanes
The Pyramid Pathogen is most at home on medium to heavy lane conditions. It's an excellent option if you're looking for a strong and predictable ball motion when the lanes are freshly oiled. The symmetrical core creates a strong but round angle at the breakpoint, which builds confidence when playing direct lines. The ball should secure carry through its consistent entry into the pocket. On very dried-up patterns, however, it burns up too much energy quickly.
