First Impressions
The Motiv Paranoia turns plenty of heads with its bright Neon Green and Purple Pearl design. Inside works the innovative symmetrical Dual Density Oblivion core with a 2.530 RG and a moderate 0.047 differential. For the cover, Motiv relies on the Agility HFS (High Friction Solid) Pearl Reactive coverstock, finished out of the box at 5500 grit LSP. This combination of a slightly revved-down core and a smooth cover should let the ball glide extremely cleanly through the heads and deliver a very sharp yet still steady change of direction at the breakpoint.
Comparison
Compared directly to the Motiv Venom Shock, the Paranoia shows drastically more length thanks to its pearl cover, along with a far more angular reaction in the dry part of the lane. Against the Storm Hy-Road Pearl, the Oblivion core gives the Paranoia a somewhat stronger, asymmetric-like backend motion. When transition changes the lane and dry spots develop, the polished cover of the Paranoia keeps the ball from giving up energy too early. That makes it an excellent choice on burned-up boards.
On the Lanes
The Motiv Paranoia is most at home on dried-up to medium lane conditions. It's an outstanding option if you're looking for a reliable, clean ball motion once the lanes have seen a lot of play. The symmetrical core generates a strong move at the breakpoint, which builds confidence when playing deeper lines. The ball should secure carry through an optimal entry into the pocket. On fresh or extremely long patterns, however, it will inevitably slide through.
