First Impressions
The Storm Parallax comes in an attractive color combination of Marine, Steel and Black and introduces the innovative TractionX7 Hybrid Reactive cover. The ball features an Aeroflo Asymmetric Core with a 2.52 RG and a 0.054 differential in the 15-pound version. The surface is polished to 1500-grit out of the box. The TractionX7 cover combines the best properties of seven of the most popular Storm coverstocks: Reactor, R2S, TX-16, NRG, SPEC, GI-20 and NeX, resulting in more texture, porosity and mobility. The Aeroflo core has an elliptical hole filled with lighter core material, which produces a higher RG than most asymmetric balls.
Comparison
The Parallax shows clear similarities to the Roto Grip Nuclear Cell, but exhibits characteristic differences in ball motion. Compared to the Storm AstroPhysiX, the Parallax generates more overall hook, and its polished surface makes it particularly well suited to medium oil volumes. The ball is a perfect complement to an arsenal with Axiom and Omega Crux. Many bowlers use it as a transition piece before moving to the Phaze 2, Axiom Pearl or Trend as the lane breaks down. The Parallax offers a better balance between cleanness and angle than the AstroPhysiX, which was too clean and angular because of its weaker cover.
On the Lanes
The Parallax shows its best results on patterns with higher oil volume, since the 2.54 RG and 0.054 differential suggest that this ball wants to grab early and often. It works optimally on medium oil volume with fresh backends at a length of roughly 37-41 feet. The core and cover combination should deliver moderate length with an angular breakpoint and continuous motion on the backend. Despite the shiny surface, the ball's massive midlane rotation makes it surprisingly usable on heavier and longer patterns, and it favors straighter angles or down-and-in lines. On lighter oil conditions some caution is warranted, since the midlane torque can cause an early hook. The ball is extremely versatile and has been successful with a variety of player types.
