First Impressions
The Storm Paradigm Domination FP (released June 2024) presents itself as a modern tribute to one of the most successful ball lines in Storm's history. Visually, the ball stands out with a striking "Crimson/Sapphire/Graphite" color scheme that catches the eye immediately on the shelf and makes the ball's rotation easy to see on the lane. Technically, Storm combines proven "old school" core technology with the latest cover chemistry here. At the heart of the ball works the legendary RAD+™ core (Radial Accelerating Disc), an asymmetric design with a 2.49 RG and a 0.047 differential (at 15 lbs). This core is known for its extremely high torque and quick axis rotation. That classic engine is wrapped in the EXO™ Pearl Reactive coverstock. This cover technology, already used on balls like the DNA Coil, is more aggressive than the conventional R2S shells. The 1500-grit polished factory finish (Reacta Gloss) gives the ball a shiny look and already hints at its primary job: generating length through the heads and storing energy for the backend. The package is rounded out by the series' signature "Cherry" scent.
Comparison
In direct comparison, the Paradigm Domination FP falls into the category of "snappy" asymmetrics. Against Storm's DNA Coil, which also uses the EXO Pearl cover, the Paradigm Domination FP produces a distinctly more angular move at the breakpoint thanks to the RAD+ core; the DNA Coil comes across as rounder and more controllable here. Compared to Storm's Virtual Energy Blackout, the Paradigm Domination FP offers a bit more traction in oil thanks to the EXO formula and reads the lane a tick earlier, but keeps the aggressive backend reaction. Compared to the Attention Star S2 from Roto Grip, the Paradigm Domination FP responds to friction somewhat faster. While the Attention Star S2 often serves as a benchmark asymmetric with a very round motion, the Paradigm Domination FP should be seen as a specialist for steep angles and defined direction changes. It differs from earlier Domination models (such as the original Domination) mainly through the modern EXO cover, which should handle today's higher oil volumes better without sacrificing the line's characteristic skid/flip motion.
On the Lanes
The Storm Paradigm Domination FP is designed primarily for medium to medium-heavy oil conditions. Its greatest strength comes out once the lane has already gone through some transition and the heads start to dry up. Thanks to the polished finish and the high RG, the ball glides effortlessly across the front boards and stores its energy for the last third of the lane. As soon as it hits friction, the RAD+ core's high differential produces a drastic change of direction. That makes it an ideal choice if you want to open up the pocket deep and have to play a lot of angle. For strokers (players with less hand rotation), the ball offers enough technological help from the asymmetric core to guarantee a solid hit into the pocket even at lower rev rates. Crankers (players with a high rev rate) will appreciate the ball's ability to move well left (for right-handers) and still bring the corner around without losing energy — carry. On fresh, very long or extremely oily patterns the ball could react too skiddy (over/under reaction); a ball with a dull solid surface would be preferable there. The Paradigm Domination FP is therefore the perfect step down when a strong solid ball (like the Storm Ion Max) rolls too early but you don't want to switch to weaker symmetricals yet.
