First Impressions
The Columbia 300 Outlook comes in a striking Purple Pearl/Blue Pearl design and has been on the market since March 2020. The ball uses the Exciter Max coverstock, a reworked version of the proven Exciter cover from the Chaos line. The symmetrical Outlook core provides a 2.533 RG in a 15-pound ball and a medium to high differential of 0.047. The surface is finished at the factory with 500/1000/3000 Siaair and polished with Crown Factory Compound, which gives the ball its characteristic pearl reaction. Flare potential is 4-5 inches.
Comparison
The Outlook feels like a symmetrical counterpart to the Columbia 300 Savage Life, but takes a different approach to creating angle than the familiar Chaos or Savage cores by way of its medium RG instead of low RG values. Users describe the ball as similar to the Columbia 300 Chaos Black, especially on wet/dry conditions. The new Exciter Max coverstock should feel familiar if you have already worked with the Exciter covers on the Chaos and Chaos Black. While the original Outlook works well on medium to dry lanes, the solid version fills the gap for medium to heavier oil conditions.
On the Lanes
The combination of high RG and medium to high differential should deliver a clean ball motion with more flip and push the move further downlane. This angular yet continuous motion makes it a potential house shot killer. The ball gets length effortlessly and offers plenty of backend reaction that isn't extremely sharp but is very angular. If you have a higher rev rate and speed, it works especially well for the 2-3 game transition, when the lanes have burned up a bit but you still want power in the backend. On sport patterns it isn't suited to the early block, since its clean and angular character is too over/under, but after a few games of carrydown and burn it does show usable results with the right line.
