First Impressions
The Radical Outer Limits marks an important technological step, as it brings the innovative HK22 base (HyperKinetic22) to the Radical brand in hybrid form for the first time. Visually striking in Purple, Black and Sky Blue, the ball looks modern and dynamic on the shelf. Inside works the newly developed asymmetric Outer Limits core, which comes with a 2.499 RG, a 0.051 differential and a 0.014 intermediate differential (at 15 lbs). Those numbers point to an early revving ball with a strong change of direction. The surface, however, is the star: the HK22 Hybrid Reactive cover arrives out of the box with a 500/1000/2000 Siaair finish. This matte prep provides traction in oil, while the chemical makeup of the HK22 base is known for still gliding very cleanly through the heads and responding to friction faster than conventional materials.
Comparison
Compared directly to the **Radical Innovator** (pearl, polished), the Outer Limits reads the lane noticeably earlier and offers more overall hook. Where the Innovator often makes a very sharp move only well down the lane, the Outer Limits uses its matte hybrid cover to control the midlane, yet thanks to HK22 it keeps a similarly explosive backend motion. Set against a benchmark solid like the **Storm Phaze II**, the Outer Limits shows a more defined, more angular move at the breakpoint due to its asymmetric core. The Phaze II rolls rounder and more continuously, while the Outer Limits reacts more aggressively to dry boards. Next to the **Roto Grip RST X-3**, the Radical Outer Limits often feels a tick quicker in its reaction ("quicker off the spot"), which gives it an edge when you have to play steeper angles despite a lot of oil.
On the Lanes
The Outer Limits is a phenomenal ball for medium to heavy oil. It solves an old problem with many matte balls: normally you give up backend motion in exchange for traction in the oil. The Outer Limits offers both. It digs through the oil in the heads without sliding uncontrollably, but thanks to HK22 technology it stores enough energy to make a drastic change of direction at the breakpoint. That makes it an ideal first ball out of the bag on fresh house or sport patterns. It lets you stand deeper on the lane and open up the pocket without worrying that the ball won't come back "around the corner." An excellent mix of the safety of a hybrid and the bite of a pearl.
