First Impressions
The Origin represents the peak of asymmetric bowling ball performance from 900 Global. Equipped with the revolutionary Ellipse A.I. Core, the Origin redefines torque and power through its groundbreaking single-density weight block. The ball is wrapped in the brand-new RB93 hybrid coverstock and finished with the innovative Power Edge Polish, which should deliver unmatched performance on oily lanes – with maximum energy retention and control. The eye-catching two-tone look in blue-green pearl and purple combines visual brilliance with technical superiority. Inspired by the legendary Barnes family – Chris, Lynda and their son Ryan – the Origin builds on decades of experience and development, designed to dominate on the lanes. The distinctive Sapphire/Sky/Purple color scheme makes the ball a visual highlight that perfectly underscores its powerful characteristics. The Origin relies on a highly developed coverstock called RB 93, short for "Reserve Blend 93". That designation reflects the latest innovation in 900 Global's Reserve Blend series. The "93" indicates the coverstock's position on a performance scale from 1 to 100, with higher numbers standing for more aggressive blends. As a result, the RB 93 is among the more aggressive hybrid coverstocks in the Global lineup, designed for exceptional performance on demanding lane conditions. This intuitive naming system makes it easier for bowlers to recognize the ball's potential strength at a glance.
Comparison
Compared head-to-head with other asymmetric balls, the Origin shows a balanced relationship between control and aggressiveness. In tests against the Attention Star S2 (a sanded asymmetric hybrid from Roto Grip) and the Harsh Reality Pearl, the Origin lands in a strong middle position. It is slightly earlier than the Harsh Reality Pearl, but noticeably longer and sharper in its motion than the Attention Star S2. The Harsh Reality Pearl proved to be about 3-4 boards stronger and required corresponding adjustments in positioning. The Origin's motion is defined by good length down the lane followed by a controlled yet powerful reaction off the backend. Compared to the Road Warrior, the Origin comes across as somewhat stronger overall, but keeps its clean characteristics. On fresh oil patterns the Origin shows an impressive forward drive through the pins, which is especially advantageous if you throw the ball with higher speed and less rotation. Its strength lies in the midlane, where the asymmetric core can unfold its full capabilities, followed by a controlled yet powerful motion off the backend.
On the Lanes
The Origin is ideal if you're looking for a controlled reaction on medium to longer oil patterns. It works excellently on longer patterns, high oil volumes and in situations where the ball should stay closer to the pocket. When the lanes start to break down and show transition, especially in the middle frames of a game, the Origin can play to its strengths. According to the performance indicators, the Origin has a high flare potential, a ball shape geared more toward angular than smooth, and concentrates its hook length mainly in the midlane to late area. It is designed for medium to high oil volumes and shows its best performance on medium pattern lengths during transition phases. If you have slower ball speed, the Origin is an excellent choice, as it is for those who want to play straighter. At higher ball speed the ball still remains controllable and offers enough backend reaction to drive through the pins. Bowlers looking for a balance between reading the lane early and a strong backend will benefit from the Origin. For maximum performance on house patterns, it is recommended to scuff the ball lightly – for instance with a 2000 grit by hand – to rein in the out-of-box reaction a bit and avoid over/under. That makes the ball more versatile and more responsive to a variety of lane conditions. The Origin is especially valuable as a game-3 ball in league play, when the lanes already show some friction spots but there is still enough oil for a stronger ball. It functions as the perfect transition ball between stronger options like the Ion Max and faster balls like the Attention Star.
