The Origin EX presents itself as the latest chapter in the Origin series from 900 Global. With its striking color combination of muted purple, red, and orange tones, it creates a visually calm yet appealing impression on the lane. The matte surface not only gives the ball a distinctive look but also plays a decisive role in its performance. At the heart of the Origin EX works the proven Ellipse A.I. Core – the same revolutionary core that was already used in the original Origin. This asymmetric core, with a low RG value of 2.48, a differential of 0.050, and a PSA value of 0.020, provides strong, controlled rotation. In the 16-pound version, the numbers come in at an RG of 2.47, while the differential and PSA value remain identical. What sets the Origin EX apart from its predecessor is the brand-new RB 89 Solid coverstock. It comes with a 2000-grit surface out of the box, which corresponds to an actual scan value of roughly 1500 grit. This combination of a strong core and a new coverstock was developed to strike the perfect balance between control and power.

Comparison
In a direct comparison with the original Origin, the Origin EX shows a noticeably different motion pattern. While the original Origin, with its hybrid RB 93 coverstock, offers a quicker, more aggressive breakpoint and more angle at the end of the lane, the Origin EX presents itself as considerably more controlled and smoother in its motion. The Origin EX reads the oil earlier and delivers a more predictable backend reaction. These characteristics make it comparable to balls like the Hammer Effect or the Absolute Power from Storm, though with a somewhat stronger core. Compared to the Columbia 300 Rally, the Origin EX shows an earlier and more controlled reaction, while the Rally comes through the heads cleaner and creates more angle at the end of the lane. Interestingly, the Origin EX is also compared to the Harsh Reality, proving to be noticeably cleaner and resembling more of a stronger Hammer Effect or a kind of "strong symmetric ball." In terms of its placement in the arsenal, it sits one step below balls like the Ion Max, but offers more versatility and control.

On the Lanes
The Origin EX reaches its full potential on lanes with medium to heavier oil volume. Its strength lies in the combination of early read and continuous, predictable motion. Its versatility is especially impressive: it can be played on straighter lines, moving forward and directly to the pins, and it can also create a more continuous motion with more rotation. One outstanding characteristic of the Origin EX is how forgiving it is. The smooth, continuous motion means the ball still delivers good results on shots that aren't executed perfectly. Even at higher speed or with slight errors in placement, it maintains its characteristic motion and provides good carry. If you don't like playing extremely far left, the Origin EX offers an excellent control option. It's ideal for the first or second game of a tournament or league series, when the lanes are still fresh. As the transition progresses and friction increases, the ball can easily be played with more rotation and thus stays in play longer than many comparable options. The Origin EX holds its surface texture surprisingly well, which leads to consistent performance over numerous games. If you want an even more controlled reaction, leaving the matte surface as is can be recommended, while a light polish can add length without substantially changing the characteristic smooth motion. In summary, the Origin EX is a valuable addition for players looking for a versatile, controlled ball with a strong core and a predictable, continuous motion – ideal for medium to heavier oil volumes and a reliable option for a wide variety of lane conditions.
