First Impressions
The Storm Optimus-X arrives as an exclusive international release in a very classy pearl and solid hybrid color blend. At the heart of this model beats the asymmetric Tri-Sphere motor, which shows a 2.480 RG, a strong 0.048 differential and a 0.013 intermediate differential. The outer layer consists of the high-performance R2X Hybrid Reactive coverstock, polished to a high gloss out of the box. This combination of the early-revving asymmetric motor and the smooth hybrid surface should let the ball glide extremely safely through the heads and deliver a very strong, asymmetric roll phase.
Comparison
Compared to the original Storm Optimus with its pure pearl cover, the Optimus-X picks up noticeably earlier thanks to its hybrid content and offers a considerably more stable, steadier reaction at the breakpoint. Next to the Storm Crux Pearl, the Optimus-X creates a somewhat more moderate but still extremely powerful asymmetric motion. As soon as the transition sets in and the front part of the lane dries up, the Optimus-X benefits enormously from its hybrid cover. It wants friction in order to carry its asymmetric dynamics into the pins without turning jerky and overhooking.
On the Lanes
The Storm Optimus-X finds its preferred territory on medium to slightly heavy lane conditions. It is the perfect choice if you need a ball on broken-down patterns that slides easily through the heads and produces a steady hook toward the pocket. The strong reaction helps you not to miss the breakpoint. The ball should maximize carry through a powerful drive. On extremely heavy oil, however, this ball can come up short on traction because of the polished cover.
