First Impressions
The Motiv Octane stands out with an extremely vivid orange and black pearl look. Inside works the fast symmetric Quadfire core, characterized by a high 2.550 RG and a moderate 0.043 differential. For the cover, Motiv relies on the Agility Pearl Reactive coverstock, polished to an extremely high shine at 5000 grit LSP out of the box. These specs should make the ball get into its move extremely late and skid safely through the heads on dry lanes. The cover and the core offer the perfect mix of maximum length and a late snap.
Comparison
In a direct comparison with the Motiv Tribal Fire, the Octane shows very similar ball motion, but the Quadfire core produces somewhat stronger flare development in oil and a sharper reaction at the breakpoint. Against the Storm Sky Rocket, the pearl design gives the Octane a comparably late, biting hook. When transition changes the lane and dry spots appear, the extremely smooth surface holds its energy immediately and releases it aggressively.
On the Lanes
The Motiv Octane is most at home on light to medium lane conditions. It's an excellent option if you're looking for clean, late ball motion once the lanes have dried up. The symmetric core creates a strong angle on dry lanes, which builds confidence when playing wider lines. The ball should secure carry through its biting entry into the pocket. On wetter patterns, though, it skids through and doesn't use up its energy.
