BOWLING BALL INFOS

First Impressions
The Ebonite Maverick, released in December 2016, comes in a striking color combination of Red, Light Blue and Purple. Technically, it marks a step forward in Ebonite's high-performance segment. At its center sits the asymmetric Maverick Core, which is based on the Warrior series design but has been modified to optimize energy transfer. With a low 2.48 RG and a high 0.056 differential (at 15 lbs), the core is extremely eager to turn over and laid out for early roll. The cover is the GB 14.0 Solid coverstock, a further development of the well-known Game Breaker chemistry that provides maximum traction. The factory finish of 500/2000 Abralon underlines this ball's aggressive orientation and signals immediate readiness for oil-heavy lanes.
Comparison
Compared to the Ebonite Warrior Supreme, its direct predecessor in the heavy oil segment, the Maverick generates even more friction and a higher overall hook. While the Warrior Supreme was known for its control, the Maverick offers stronger motion through the midlane and continues it more consistently into the backend. Taking the Hammer Scandal as a reference, both balls play in a similar league in terms of overall strength. The Maverick, however, often shows slightly better energy retention through the pins, while the Scandal tends to be even rounder and earlier. Against balls like the Storm Phaze II, which is likewise a benchmark for symmetric solids, the asymmetric Maverick reads considerably earlier and needs more oil volume so it doesn't burn up its energy in the heads.
On the Lanes
The Ebonite Maverick is clearly designed for heavy oil and fresh sport patterns. It is the ideal tool for creating friction on a "fresh" lane when other balls are still skidding. If you throw the ball fast, or if you're speed-dominant, you'll especially benefit from the massive traction the GB 14.0 Solid coverstock provides. The ball reads the lane extremely early and offers a controllable but powerful arc. Once the transition sets in and the heads start to dry up, though, it's time to switch, because otherwise the ball loses too much energy before it reaches the pocket, which can hurt carry. On deep lines it lets you cross a lot of boards without losing traction.
