BOWLING BALL INFOS

First Impressions
Released in June 2018, the Storm Match Up Black Pearl is an elegant addition to the "Hot" segment (entry-level to mid-range) that completes the successful Match Up series. Visually it arrives in a classic, timeless "Black Pearl" look that radiates understatement and seriousness the moment you see it on the rack. Inside works the Stinger 2.0 core. This symmetrical core was developed to give the original "Match" core more dynamics. With a high 2.57 RG and a moderate 0.035 differential (at 15 lbs), it is designed to maximize length. This core is wrapped in the Reactor XL Pearl Reactive coverstock. Combined with the factory 1500-grit polished finish, the intent is clear: a ball that gets through the heads as cleanly as possible and only reacts in the very last third of the lane.
Comparison
Compared directly to the Storm Match Up Solid (which reads earlier and rounder) or the Match Up Hybrid, the Black Pearl is the longest and snappiest option in the series. It provides the most skid through the front part of the lane. Compared to the classic Storm Tropical (or the later Tropical Surge), the Match Up Black Pearl is a clear upgrade. The Stinger 2.0 core offers more flare and a stronger move than the very simple entry-level cores, which results in better pin carry. Bringing the legendary Storm Hy-Road into the comparison, the Match Up Black Pearl serves as the perfect step-down: when the Hy-Road reads too strongly or makes too much total motion, the Match Up offers similar length but a milder backend reaction.
On the Lanes
The Storm Match Up Black Pearl is an absolute specialist for dry lanes, burned-up heads and short oil patterns. It is the ideal ball for the late games in league play or in tournaments, when the oil in the front is gone and stronger balls (like the Phaze II or Hy-Road) lose energy too early. Thanks to the high RG and the clean pearl cover, it almost completely ignores the friction in the first 40 feet. It lets you move back to the right again and play straighter angles instead of having to bend the ball across the whole lane. Especially if you have low ball speed or a high rev rate, it is often a lifesaver, since it offers controllable length without becoming unpredictable at the breakpoint.
