First Impressions
The Storm Match Pearl draws plenty of attention with its gold and silver pearl design. Inside, it again uses the symmetric Stinger Core with a 2.550 RG and a low 0.030 differential. The cover is the Reactor Pearl Cover, brought to a high shine out of the box with a 1500 grit polished finish. Thanks to the higher RG and the moderate differential combined with the smooth surface, the ball glides remarkably easily through the front part of the lane. These specs should give the ball a late, sharp hook.
Comparison
Compared to the regular Storm Match with its dull solid cover, the Match Pearl shows dramatically more length and a far more angular reaction in the dry part of the lane. Against a ball like the Storm Hy-Road, the Match Pearl offers less overall hook due to its lower differential, but responds to friction just as cleanly. When transition changes the lane and dry spots appear, the polished cover of the Match Pearl keeps the ball from giving up its energy too early. That makes it excellent on burned-up boards.
On the Lanes
The Storm Match Pearl is most at home on dried-up to lighter lane conditions. It's an outstanding option if you're looking for reliable, clean ball motion once the lanes have seen a lot of play. The symmetric core creates a late move at the breakpoint, which builds confidence when playing on light oil. The ball should secure carry through a clean entry into the pocket. On fresh or heavy patterns, however, it will inevitably slide through.
