First Impressions
The Storm Marvel STG / 1 presents itself as an extremely classy Asian special release in a pearl color blend. At the heart of this model beats the proven symmetric Centripetal Core, which features a low RG of 2.480 and a strong differential of 0.050. The outer layer consists of the R2S Pearl Reactive coverstock, polished to a high gloss out of the box. This combination of a rev-happy core and an extremely smooth pearl shell should ensure that the ball gets through the front cleanly and generates a very sharp, hard-hitting move in the midlane.
Comparison
Compared to the Storm Marvel Pearl, the STG / 1 offers a nearly identical skid phase and a far more consistent, extremely angular reaction at the breakpoint thanks to fine adjustments to the cover. Against the Storm Hy-Road Pearl, the Centripetal core delivers a somewhat stronger change of direction. Once transition sets in and the lane builds up uneven friction, the Marvel STG / 1 benefits enormously from its pearl dynamics. It takes excellent advantage of the dry spots.
On the Lanes
The Storm Marvel STG / 1 is ideally suited to lane conditions with medium oil volume. For strokers and tweeners it offers the chance to play the boards flexibly from deep angles, since the surface minimizes unexpected reactions and finds strong hold in the backend. The steady drive toward the pocket should deliver reliable carry. As soon as the lane gets extremely wet, however, the pearl cover can make the ball too weak in traction, and it arrives flat.
