First Impressions
The DV8 Mantra was introduced in September 2024 as a versatile addition to the DV8 product line and comes in an eye-catching color combination of black, mint and blue. At the ball's core sits a new, medium-strength asymmetric Mantra core with an RG of 2.498, a differential of 0.047 and a mass bias of 0.011 (each at 15 lbs). The cover is the HK22 coverstock with Inciter Xtreme Hybrid additives — a technology already used on the successful DV8 Trouble Maker Pearl. The factory surface prep of 500, 1000, 1500 Siaair and Factory Compound should deliver effortless glide through the heads along with an explosive backend reaction. Like all modern DV8 balls, the Mantra also features DynamiCore technology for increased durability and improved pin action, as well as DOT (Durability Optimization Technology) to minimize cracking.
Comparison
Within the DV8 line, the Mantra positions itself between the DV8 Trouble Maker Pearl and the DV8 Chill Pearl. Compared to the legendary DV8 Diva, the Mantra offers a similarly clean and consistent roll, but with noticeably more backend reaction when it contacts friction. While the Diva series was designed more for tighter lane conditions, the Mantra extends that concept toward more versatile applications through its asymmetric core and hybrid cover. Against more aggressive options such as the DV8 Wicked Collision and the DV8 Hater, the Mantra serves as a step-down ball, while at the same time showing more overall motion than weaker offerings. The difference from the DV8 Trouble Maker Pearl lies primarily in the performance classification: where the Trouble Maker Pearl reacts earlier and stronger as a high-performance pearl ball, the Mantra slots in as a mid-performance hybrid that glides more controlled through the heads.
On the Lanes
The DV8 Mantra was developed specifically for medium oil conditions and fills an important gap for bowlers looking for a predictable skid-flip characteristic. The combination of asymmetric core and hybrid cover should provide enough length through the heads while storing enough energy for a powerful but controlled change of direction at the breakpoint. If you're a stroker, the ball offers more hold on the left side of the lane along with strong recovery on shots out to the right. The versatility shows up especially during transition: when the lane changes and the track area is played out, the Mantra makes it easy to adjust your angles by moving your launch point left. Tweeners and crankers benefit from the precise control on more direct lines without giving up backend power. The ball works both as a benchmark option for house shot conditions and as a tournament ball for situations that call for closed angles combined with asymmetric core motion. The factory surface can be adjusted as needed, either opening the ball up for an earlier reaction or polishing it for more length.
