First Impressions
The Radical Ludicrous Solid, released in March 2019, is the powerful evolution of the original Ludicrous and aims to carry the series' proven backend motion over to heavier oil conditions. Visually, the ball comes in a serious two-color combination of black and purple (Black/Purple), whose matte surface catches the eye immediately. From the factory it is finished with a 500/1500 Siaair Micro Pad, which gives it a pronounced texture. Technically, Radical combines the proven asymmetric Ludicrous Core with the aggressive Ai-43 Solid Reactive shell here. One special feature of this core is the patented Finger Scoop Technology, whose dedicated cutouts allow the ball reaction to be varied widely through the drilling layout. With an RG of 2.535 and a differential of 0.050 (at 15 lbs), the ball sits in an interesting range: the relatively high RG means it glides through the heads surprisingly easily despite the tacky solid shell, while the high differential produces massive flare potential on the backend. The intermediate differential of 0.012 supports a quick but controllable transition.
Comparison
Compared directly to the original Radical Ludicrous (pearl/hybrid characteristics, black/green color), the Ludicrous Solid reads the lane noticeably earlier. Where the original often reacts to friction only late and violently ("skid-flip"), the solid version starts its roll phase earlier, yet surprisingly retains much of the aggressive backend reaction the Ludicrous line is known for. Set against the Radical Conspiracy, the Ludicrous Solid goes a bit longer and turns a bit more angular. The Conspiracy (with its lower RG of roughly 2.48) digs into the oil earlier and offers a rounder overall motion, while the Ludicrous Solid stores more energy for the area past the breakpoint. Against a symmetric benchmark ball like the Storm Phaze II, the Ludicrous Solid provides a more defined change of direction at the end of the pattern thanks to its asymmetry and the Ai-43 shell, and it drives harder through the pin deck (carry). It is less prone to over/under reactions than the Radical Squatch, which offers similar length but slides out more quickly when it hits oil.
On the Lanes
The Radical Ludicrous Solid is made for medium to heavy oil patterns where you still want a strong backend reaction. Heavy oil patterns often force you into balls that roll early and create little angle at the end — the Ludicrous Solid breaks with that compromise. It is ideal for the stage where a pure "snow tire" (an extremely early solid ball) loses too much energy but a pearl ball is still too jumpy. The high RG gets it cleanly through the heads even as they dry up, and the matte surface lets it read the midlane consistently. Thanks to the Finger Scoop Technology, your driller can configure the ball either for maximum bite or for a slightly smoother curve, which makes it extremely versatile for tournament players. It works excellently for playing steeper angles on fresh oil without having to worry about the ball washing out at the breakpoint or missing the pocket.
