First Impressions
The Columbia 300 Lit Pearl was released in February 2018 as a dynamic complement to the original Lit Solid. Visually, the ball stands out with a lively combination of purple, blue and white pearl. Inside works the asymmetric Lit core, developed specifically for powerful energy release and a high degree of continuation. In the 15-pound version, this core shows a low RG of 2.47, a high differential of 0.052 and an intermediate differential of 0.020. The core is wrapped in the Reflex XS Pearl coverstock, prepared at the factory with a 500/1000 Abralon finish and brought to a high gloss with Powerhouse Factory Finish Polish. This combination aims to preserve the asymmetric power of the core through the heads and release it explosively only in the back part of the lane.
Comparison Compared to the original Columbia 300 Lit (Solid), the pearl version offers noticeably more length and a sharper change of direction at the breakpoint. While the Lit Solid is designed to read the oil as early as possible and describe a massive arc, the Lit Pearl is a specialist for the transition phase. Compared with the Ebonite Warrior Supreme, the Lit Pearl shows a somewhat cleaner skid phase thanks to the Reflex technology, but reacts more angularly at the end of the pattern. In a cross-brand comparison with the Storm Code Black, the Lit Pearl offers a somewhat more stable midlane presence, which makes it less prone to "over-under" reactions (the phenomenon where the ball either reacts too strongly or not at all). Against the Columbia 300 Savage, the Lit Pearl offers higher exit speed and a steeper entry angle, which makes it the better choice when you're forced to move deeper into the center of the lane.
On the Lanes The ideal application for the Columbia 300 Lit Pearl is on medium to heavy oil patterns, once the heads start to dry up. It's the perfect choice if you're looking for the board coverage of an asymmetric high-performance ball but find that dull solid models burn up too much energy before they reach the pins. Thanks to the polished Reflex XS cover, the ball glides effortlessly through burned-up heads, yet finds enough traction in the midlane to stay stable. If you throw the ball fast, you'll benefit from the asymmetric dynamics that help drive the ball powerfully "around the corner" at the breakpoint. For rev-dominant players it's an excellent tool for late tournament play when opening up wide angles. On extremely dry surfaces, however, the strong core could produce too violent a reaction, while on completely fresh, heavy oil it may skid too far unless the surface is lightly scuffed. In the pocket, the Lit core delivers impressive hitting power and minimizes flat hits. Overall, the Lit Pearl is a reliable powerhouse for bowlers looking for maximum backend aggressiveness.
