First Impressions
The Storm Lights Out TE Purple/Orange arrives in an extremely eye-catching pearl color combination. The heart of this model is the Turbine Core, which stands out with a higher RG of 2.550 and a moderate differential of 0.038. The shell is the proven R2S Pearl Reactive coverstock, heavily polished to a high gloss out of the box. The higher RG lets the core rev up late, while the smooth cover should keep the ball gliding very safely through the heads and save its dynamics for the backend.
Comparison
Compared to the regular Storm Lights Out, the TE (Tournament Edition) offers a considerably sharper reaction at the breakpoint thanks to slight cover modifications. Next to the Storm Hy-Road Pearl, the Lights Out TE produces a very similar, moderate motion through the oil, but with a marginally snappier hook. Once the transition sets in and the front part of the lane dries up completely, this ball is extremely effective. It wants dry boards in order to carry its smooth dynamics all the way into the pins.
On the Lanes
The Storm Lights Out TE finds its preferred territory on dried-up lane conditions. It is the perfect choice if you need a ball on burned-up patterns that slides easily through the heads and produces a steady hook toward the pocket. The late reaction helps keep you from overthrowing the breakpoint. The ball should secure carry through a clean entry angle. On fresh oil, however, this ball is often too weak.
