First Impressions
The Storm Level Up is a symmetrical bowling ball released in May 2026 as an exclusive overseas model, primarily for the Asian market. Inside works the newly tuned Equalizer A.I. Symmetrical core, which comes with very particular numbers. At a standard ball weight of 15 pounds, the core carries an exceptionally high RG of 2.590 and a low differential of 0.027. These specs point to an extremely late-rolling ball with very little flare potential. This core is wrapped in the completely new RPM-XT Solid Reactive coverstock. Out of the box, the cover comes with a matte 1000 Abralon finish. This combination of a core that stores energy extremely long and only transitions into a stable roll phase late, plus a rough solid surface that wants to build traction early, aims at very controllable and smooth ball motion. The ball should glide effortlessly through the heads and, thanks to the low differential, produce a gentle, highly predictable move in the backend without reacting aggressively to dry areas. Visually, the ball comes in a plain, all-black design and carries the classic Storm scent in blueberry.
Comparison Comparing the ball motion of the Storm Level Up with established symmetrical models on the market, its unconventional design clearly stands out. Taking the Storm Phaze II as a classic reference, massive differences in core orientation become apparent, even though both balls use a matte solid surface. While the Phaze II starts rotating very early with its low RG and swings a strong, continuous arc toward the pocket thanks to its high differential, the Level Up delays its core rotation considerably and offers a far gentler change of direction at the breakpoint. Against a Storm IQ Tour Edition, which likewise has low flare potential in order to provide control on demanding patterns, the Level Up positions itself as the even longer alternative. The IQ Tour reads the midlane noticeably earlier due to its lower RG, while the Level Up skids perceptibly further down the lane before it starts its gentle hook. Compared to a strong asymmetrical solid ball like the Motiv Jackal Ambush, the Level Up behaves completely contrary. It offers neither the early, massive traction nor the strong torque of the Motiv ball, focusing instead purely on maximum length control and an extremely quiet backend.
On the Lanes The Storm Level Up unfolds its intended potential best on medium to drying oil patterns or on lanes with a general tendency toward too much friction. If you're looking for maximum control, this model gives you a highly specialized tool for difficult stretches of the game. The extremely high RG helps the ball pass through the heads effortlessly and without burning energy, even when the front boards are already heavily played from ongoing traffic. At the same time, the matte 1000 Abralon surface keeps the ball from sliding too far past the breakpoint in the drier areas. Instead, the rough cover should read the developing transition gently and reliably avoid abrupt surprises at the end of the oil pattern. Since the very low differential allows only extremely little flare, the final hook is highly controllable and smooth. That makes the ball an ideal choice for direct lines or for situations where lane reaction turns very aggressive and urgently needs to be calmed down. If you have a dominant rev rate and often struggle with reactive balls grabbing too early or overreacting in the backend, you should benefit considerably from this specific layout. On extremely fresh, high-volume patterns, however, the low flare potential will mean the ball generates too little entry angle into the pocket, which can noticeably reduce carry. In those cases, switching to a stronger, more dynamic ball is advisable.
