BOWLING BALL INFOS

First Impressions
The Track Kinetic Obsidian presents itself as a by now legendary ball in the popular Kinetic series, with its characteristic black design. The ball combines the proven Modified Kinetic core with the solid DR-7 surface, a special cover that is normally only used polished. The Modified Kinetic core design features low RG values, medium differential and low mass asymmetry. The surface is finished with 500/2000 Abralon and is offered for the first time in a solid, sanded version, which gives the ball its unique characteristics.
Comparison
In a direct comparison with the Track Kinetic Ruby, the Obsidian shows distinct differences in ball motion. Compared to the Ruby, you can line up considerably further right, which points to the changed length characteristics. The factory surface provides more traction in the midlane and at the same time more breakpoint activity than the Ruby. While the Ruby was designed for heavier oil volumes and longer oil patterns, the Obsidian positions itself as a more versatile ball. The DR-7 cover should give all testers more length and backend than the Ruby, though not as much as the Track Kinetic Amethyst. This positioning makes it an interesting bridge between different lane conditions.
On the Lanes
The Kinetic Obsidian is a perfect fit for medium to heavy oil patterns and shows its strengths especially during the transition from fresh to broken-down lanes. The core configuration should store energy longer and respond more quickly to friction, which gives the ball versatility. The combination of core and cover should provide excellent traction in the midlane with an aggressive change of direction on the backend. Bowlers particularly appreciate the ball for its predictability and consistency across different lane conditions. Despite the dull factory surface, the ball proved to be the better option on medium rather than heavy oil patterns due to the less revvy core. The Obsidian works for both rev-dominant and speed-dominant bowlers, with the lineup adjusted accordingly.
