- Kinetic Black Ice

First Impressions
The Track Kinetic Black Ice, released in April 2022, is a sought-after model produced primarily for the international market (overseas release), though it also found its way into many Western pro shops. Visually the ball stands out with an extremely clean, almost futuristic "Black/Silver" (Ice) design that looks classy thanks to the high-gloss finish. Technically it is built on one of the longest-lived and most popular cores in bowling history: the Modified Kinetic Core (also called the Shuttle Core). This asymmetric core is unique in that it works with a 2.48 RG, a 0.040 differential and a very low intermediate differential of 0.006 (at 15 lbs). Those numbers place it right on the line between symmetric and asymmetric. The core is wrapped in a QR-7 Pearl Reactive cover (Quick Response) that comes polished out of the box. The result is a ball that combines length with a very defined motion off the backend.
Comparison
The most obvious comparison is the Track Kinetic Platinum (US release). Both balls share the same core and a pearl surface. The Black Ice behaves very similarly: it offers that same legendary "Kinetic motion" — it revs up quickly through the midlane thanks to the low RG, but the polished pearl cover saves energy for a late, sharp break. Compared to a "true" asym like the Track Paragon Pearl, the Kinetic Black Ice is noticeably tamer and more controllable. The extremely low intermediate differential (0.006) means it doesn't "stop" and hook as abruptly as strong asyms, instead making a continuous move through the pins, similar to a strong symmetric ball like the Ebonite Game Breaker 4 Pearl, but with a little more kick at the breakpoint.
On the Lanes
The Track Kinetic Black Ice is a phenomenal choice for medium to light oil. It shines especially on house shots where the outside boards are dry and the middle is oily (cliff). Its strength is the combination of midlane read (from the core) and backend snap (from the cover). It's the perfect ball for the transition: when the lane breaks down and stronger balls roll too early, the Black Ice lets you move deeper and throw the ball out to the dry outside boards. It reacts quickly to friction but stays controllable enough, thanks to the "gentle" asymmetry, that it won't unpredictably cross over the nose. It's an ideal ball 2 or 3 in the bag.
