BOWLING BALL INFOS

First Impressions
The Radical Katana Slash was released in March 2018 and expands the Katana series with a hybrid version that bridges the gap between the original pearl version and later solid variants. Color-wise, the ball impresses with a dynamic mix of orange and black. Inside works the highly dynamic, asymmetric Katana core, known for a special design that produces an extremely quick change of direction at the breakpoint. The technical specs for a 15-pound ball are a 2.503 RG, a 0.050 differential and a 0.020 intermediate differential. The coverstock is Forged-X Hybrid Reactive, prepared at the factory with a 500/1000 Siaair Micro Pad finish and then polished with Crown Factory Compound. This combination should deliver a clean look through the heads, a stable midlane phase and an aggressive backend reaction.
Comparison Compared to the original Radical Katana (pearl), the Katana Slash offers noticeably improved traction in oil thanks to the hybrid coverstock. While the pearl version tends to skid past the breakpoint on too much volume, the Slash finds traction earlier and provides a more controlled but still very angular motion. Compared to the Radical Katana Dragon, the Slash runs much cleaner through the heads and stores more energy for the backend, while the Dragon, as a solid model, reads the lane much earlier. In a cross-brand comparison with the Storm Code Red, the Katana Slash shows a stronger asymmetric response and higher flare potential due to the more aggressive Katana core. Against the Brunswick Kingpin Max, the Katana Slash offers a distinctly more angular character, since the Kingpin Max is built for total traction and an early arc shape, while the Slash is geared toward maximum angle at the end of the oil pattern.
On the Lanes The ideal application for the Radical Katana Slash is on medium to slightly heavy oil patterns where a strong backend reaction is needed to optimize the entry angle into the pocket. Thanks to the polished hybrid finish, the ball is especially effective in the transition phase, when the heads are already slightly played in but there is still enough oil in the middle for a clean ball path. If you have moderate ball speed, you'll benefit from the dynamic power of the asymmetric core, which drives the ball back to the pocket with authority even on smaller release mistakes. For rev-dominant players, the Katana Slash is an excellent option for playing deeper angles over the inside boards without the ball "dying" in the midlane. On extremely dry surfaces, however, the high asymmetric differential could produce too violent a reaction, while on extremely heavy oil it may not have enough teeth to grab in time. In the pocket, the explosive core activity creates impressive pin action and minimizes ten-pin carry loss. All in all, the Katana Slash is a strategic powerhouse for bowlers who want to combine length with asymmetric aggressiveness.
