BOWLING BALL INFOS

First Impressions
The Radical Katana Assault marks the return of the popular Katana series with a significant technological step forward. Visually, the ball stands out with its combination of smoke, black, and blue. Technically, it is built around the new "Katana Assault Asymmetric" core, which at 15 lbs shows a 2.501 RG, a 0.051 differential, and a 0.020 intermediate differential. Those numbers point to enormous dynamics. The real highlight, however, is the coverstock: this is the first use of the HK22 (HyperKinetic22) pearl blend. Out of the box, the surface is finished with 500/1000/1500 Siaair followed by Crown Factory Compound. This combination of new chemistry and polish suggests extremely clean length through the heads, paired with an almost explosive reaction at the breakpoint.
Comparison
Compared directly to the original Radical Katana, the Assault responds to friction even faster thanks to the modified core and the HK22 cover. It is defined as an absolute "skid-flip" monster. Set against a current market rival like the Storm Absolute, the Katana Assault often shows an even sharper change of direction in the backend ("hockey stick motion"). Against the later Radical Katana Strike, which uses a hybrid cover, the Assault travels noticeably longer in a straight line and stores more energy for the back part of the lane, while the Strike reads a bit rounder and earlier. It is more aggressive in the backend than many other shiny asymmetric balls in its class.
On the Lanes
The Katana Assault is the ideal weapon when you need to open up the lane. It shines on medium to heavy oil patterns, provided the backend is dry and defined. Its strength lies in playing steep angles: if you have to stand deep inside and send the ball far outside, the HK22 cover makes sure the ball retains its energy and virtually snaps back off the boards. It is less suited to extremely fresh, long sport patterns where control in the heads is required, since it could be too skiddy there. But as soon as the transition sets in and you need a ball that gets around the corner and maximizes carry, the Assault is the first choice.

Deutlich besser als der "Hybrid"

Preis / Leistung (3 out of 5)
