First Impressions
The Brunswick Jagged Edge Solid comes in an attractive Sky Blue/Black design and represents the newest generation of Brunswick's Edge series. The ball combines the new Brink Symmetric core with the Relativity 2.0 Solid coverstock to produce aggressive midlane traction and strong backend motion. The specs show a 2.508 RG (15 pounds) and a 0.043 differential, which makes it a high-performance tool for medium to oily lane conditions. With its 500/3000 Siaair factory finish, the ball should provide a smooth, controlled hook on medium lane conditions.
Comparison
The Brink Symmetric core has a lower RG (2.508) and a higher differential (0.043) than the Cutting Edge Low RG Symmetric core from the Cutting Edge series. The coverstock has been strengthened compared to the Cutting Edges and upgraded to the Relativity 2.0 Solid formulation. This stronger cover and the new core should give every player type additional hook compared to all of the Cutting Edge balls. In a direct comparison to the Brunswick Cutting Edge Solid, the Jagged Edge Solid shows noticeably more aggressive behavior through the midlane. The 500/3000 SiaAir factory finish allows the ball to create friction earlier than the Jagged Edge Hybrid.
On the Lanes
The coverstock should provide more recovery when bowling on medium to oily lane conditions, which makes the ball especially suited to players who need consistent performance on fresher lanes. Tweeners and crankers showed the best reactions on fresh medium patterns with the factory finish. The matte surface of the Jagged Edge Solid gave them plenty of hook in the midlane with strong continuation at the breakpoint. The ball works best if you have a lower to medium rev rate on medium to oily conditions, or if you have a higher rev rate and are looking for early friction and a controllable backend reaction. As a traction ball, it should get into a roll earlier on the lane and provide more hook on oilier conditions. That versatility makes it an ideal benchmark ball for a variety of lane conditions.
