First Impressions
The Motiv Jackal Fury is a special release from July 2017 that is often listed as an international release or exclusive. At the heart of this ball works the proven asymmetric Predator V2 core, which also sees duty in the legendary Jackal Ghost. At 15 pounds this core delivers a low RG of 2.47 and a high differential of 0.054, plus an intermediate differential of 0.015. These numbers guarantee an extremely early revving action and massive flare potential. What sets the Jackal Fury apart is the combination of this strong core with the Coercion Pearl Reactive coverstock. Unlike typical pearl balls, however, the Fury ships out of the box with a 3000 grit LSS (Laser Scan Sanded) finish. This matte treatment takes the usual "skid-flip" character away from the pearl cover and instead provides a surprisingly early and controlled reaction that you would otherwise expect from solid balls.
Comparison Compared directly with the Motiv Jackal Ghost, which came out the same year and is considered the benchmark for heavy-oil solids, the Jackal Fury offers a touch more length through the heads thanks to its pearl content, but reads the midlane almost as strongly because of the 3000 grit surface. Where a classic pearl ball like the Motiv Jackal Flash (polished) responds to friction only late and very angularly, the Fury offers a rounder, more predictable arc. Set against a competitor from that era, such as the Storm Sure Lock, the Fury shows a similarly strong overall hook, but the pearl additives in the cover make it feel somewhat more dynamic in the backend once the oil in the heads thins out a bit. Performance-wise it sits right between a pure "snowplow" solid and a shiny backend monster.
On the Lanes The Jackal Fury is predestined for oily lane conditions where you still need a certain amount of energy retention for the pins. The sanded surface lets the ball bite reliably through the oil in the heads and the midlane, but avoids the overreaction at the breakpoint that polished balls often show on fresh oil. It is an excellent choice as the first ball out of the bag on fresh house shots or longer sport patterns. For rev-dominant players it provides the control needed not to miss the pocket, while if you are speed-dominant you'll benefit from the aggressive surface texture, which helps get the ball into a roll in time. Once the lane breaks down too much (transition), however, the rough surface can burn up energy too early; at that point a switch to a polished pearl ball (like the Golden Jackal or Jackal Flash) would be advisable.
