First Impressions
The Motiv Jackal Flash is an impressive member of the ultimate high-performance Jackal series and is considered the strongest asymmetric pearl cover Motiv has ever developed. The ball uses the proven Predator V2 asymmetric core, which is also found in the Alpha Jackal and Jackal Ghost. The specs for 15 pounds list a 2.47 RG, a .054 differential and a .015 intermediate differential. This core is wrapped in the new Infusion HV Pearl Reactive coverstock, polished to 5000 LSP out of the box. As Motiv's first three-color ball, the Flash combines looks and function in an eye-catching design.
Comparison
In a direct comparison, the Jackal Flash offers more hook than the Motiv Ripcord, but stays a step below the Alpha Jackal. It also reads more angular than both the Motiv Forge Fire and the Trident Nemesis. Bowlers report having to stand about 4-5 boards further left compared to the Alpha Jackal, while positioning relative to the Nemesis is more similar, though the Nemesis reads earlier and is smoother overall. While Motiv covers are often described as reacting less quickly to friction than, for example, Storm products, this gentler transition offers more versatility, which makes the Flash an excellent complement to the Jackal Ghost.
On the Lanes
Designed as an early transition ball for high oil volume, the Flash should offer strength similar to solid asymmetric balls, but run cleaner through the heads with a quicker reaction off the backend. While it is primarily intended as a transition ball, rev-dominant bowlers can also use it as their first ball out of the bag. Speed-dominant bowlers who normally struggle with pearl balls should find it very versatile under moderate conditions. The ball stands out for its clean motion through the heads and its quick response to friction, which produces particularly impressive shapes. Its versatility means that the further left you play and the more the pocket opens up, the stronger it reads the midlane and the more powerfully it finishes on the backend without giving up, which builds confidence in playing a pearl on fresh lanes.
