First Impressions
The Motiv Jackal Boss was released in December 2017 as an exclusive overseas model, adding a specific power component to the Jackal series for the international market. Visually, the ball impresses with an elegant combination of gray, black and red pearl. Technically, it is based on the proven asymmetric Predator V2 core, known for its massive rotational energy and high flare potential. With a 2.47 RG and a 0.054 differential at 15 pounds, the setup is built for maximum dynamics. The special feature is the Coercion HVP (High Volume Pearl) coverstock, developed specifically to combine the traction of the Coercion technology with the length of a pearl shell. Out of the box, the ball comes with a 3000 grit LSS (Laser Scan Sanded) finish, giving it a matte but still free-sliding texture.
Comparison Compared to the Motiv Jackal Ghost, the Jackal Boss offers more length through the heads thanks to its pearl cover, along with a considerably more defined change of direction at the breakpoint. Where the Ghost as a solid version reads the midlane very early, the Boss stores energy more effectively for the backend. Set next to the Storm Phaze II, the Jackal Boss shows a substantially more aggressive asymmetric core character that results in a steeper entry angle, while the Phaze II reacts in a more controlled, rounder fashion. Compared to the Motiv Jackal Rising, released at the same time, the Boss offers a cleaner skid phase and is less prone to rolling out early on lanes with somewhat less oil volume. Compared to the Motiv Trident Quest, the Jackal Boss shows greater overall hook, since the Predator V2 core provides more displacement than the core of the Trident series.
On the Lanes The Motiv Jackal Boss is designed as a high-performance ball for medium to heavy oil conditions and closes the gap between extreme heavy-oil monsters and pure pearl balls for drier lanes. Thanks to the special Coercion HVP coverstock, it should be able to handle deeper oil through the middle of the lane without losing the aggressive backend reaction needed for high carry rates. It is the ideal choice if you are looking for a ball to use after the first transition off the Jackal Rising or Ghost, once the heads have started to break down slightly. On a typical house shot (THS), the Jackal Boss allows you to play wider angles, since it has the power needed to come back off the friction into the pocket with authority. If you throw the ball fast, you'll benefit from the traction of the Coercion chemistry, while if you have a moderate rev rate, you'll appreciate the help the asymmetric core provides at the breakpoint.
