First Impressions
The Brunswick Intense Mindset shows up in a striking color combination of black, orange and purple that really pops thanks to the ultra-transparent HK22 base. As the third ball in the Mindset series, which launched in June 2024, it marks a logical continuation of the product line. While the original came with a very dull reactive solid cover and the Perfect Mindset featured an HK22-based hybrid cover, the Intense Mindset uses the HK22 – Evolution Pearl coverstock. The technical heart of the ball is the unchanged asymmetric Mindset core with a 2.487" RG, a 0.050" differential and a 0.021" intermediate differential at 15 pounds. The factory finish of 500/1000/1500 SiaAir plus Crown Factory Compound gives the ball an interesting combination of traction and length. Brunswick also relies on its proven DynamiCore technology for improved hitting power and Durability Optimization Technology (DOT) to reduce cracking around the drilling. With a Reaction Shape Strength of 90, Brunswick positions the Intense Mindset as a FLIP ball in the Pro category, one that should glide through the heads and make a powerful change of direction on the backend.
Comparison The Intense Mindset takes a specific spot within the Mindset family and within Brunswick's lineup as a whole. Compared to the original Brunswick Mindset, known for its early and aggressive reaction on heavy oil patterns, the Intense Mindset offers noticeably more length through the heads and a more angular move on the backend. The Brunswick Perfect Mindset with its hybrid cover sits between these two poles and delivers a smoother, more controlled reaction for bowlers who found the original too strong. The Intense Mindset should be considered the most angular ball in the series, even if it doesn't quite reach the extreme angle of the Brunswick Beyond Infinity, which with its Infinity core and HK22 A.X.H. Pearl cover ranks among the most angular reactions in the entire Brunswick line. The combination of low RG and high differential in the Mindset core differs clearly from the Infinity core with its higher RG and lower intermediate differential, which shows up in different reaction characteristics. While the Beyond Infinity is designed more for medium oil volumes, the Intense Mindset is positioned for medium-heavy to heavy oil patterns.
On the Lanes The Intense Mindset is aimed primarily at bowlers looking for a combination of length and backend power on medium to medium-heavy oil patterns. The pearl cover should allow the ball to glide effortlessly through the heads before it starts to grab in the midlane and shows a powerful reaction on the backend. It could play to its strengths especially on broken-down house shots or during transition, when earlier-reacting balls pick up too soon or burn up. The factory finish with Crown Factory Compound appears to provide enough midlane traction that many bowlers can leave the box finish alone, whereas with other pearl balls they might have to make surface adjustments. The asymmetric core construction with its high flare potential of 5-6 inches lets the ball leave a large footprint on the lane while generating considerable hook. If you have a higher rev rate, the ball should be particularly interesting on fresh medium patterns, while strokers may appreciate the extra length and the powerful backend when their stronger solid or hybrid balls react too early. The ball suits both house shot and sport pattern conditions and could serve as a versatile option in the arsenal, slotting in between more aggressive solid balls and more controllable benchmark pieces. The combination of HK22 technology for improved clarity and friction response along with DynamiCore for added hitting power should help the ball handle stubborn pin combinations and deliver consistent carry.
