First Impressions
The Radical Intel was released in January 2018 and takes an approach that is unusually plain for Radical, with a solid black surface. While the brand is often known for extremely aggressive skid-flip reactions, the Intel was conceived as the ultimate benchmark ball. Inside sits a newly developed symmetrical core with a 2.48 RG and a 0.035 differential at 15 pounds. These moderate specs aim at maximum predictability. The core is wrapped in the Ai-25 Solid Reactive coverstock, finished with a dull 500/2000 Siaair surface. The goal of this design is a harmonious package that reads early enough to provide stability, but is not so strong that it loses energy prematurely in the midlane.
Comparison Compared to the Radical Beyond Ridiculous, which came out at the same time, the Intel offers a completely opposite motion. Where the Beyond Ridiculous skids through the heads and reacts angularly, the Intel shows a very early, rolling and extremely controlled arc. Placed next to the legendary Storm Phaze II, it becomes clear that the Intel has slightly less overall hook and reacts more "quietly" to friction in general, which often makes it easier to control on difficult patterns. Compared to the Radical Katana, the Intel is far less dependent on angle and provides a more stable reference point if you still have to read the pattern. Compared to the Brunswick Magnitude 035 Solid, the Intel offers very similar control characteristics, but thanks to the Ai-25 chemistry it feels somewhat more modern and more powerful in its continuation through the pins.
On the Lanes The Radical Intel is designed as a reliable benchmark ball for medium oil conditions and should give you immediate feedback on the condition of the lane. Thanks to the dull solid finish and the symmetrical, low-differential core, it offers exceptional control over the breakpoint, which makes it an ideal choice for sport patterns and tournaments. It is particularly effective if you struggle with erratic backend reactions, since it smooths out the motion to the breakpoint. On a typical house shot (THS) it is an excellent ball to start with in order to find a safe line to the pocket without being surprised by unexpected jumps off dry spots. It forgives inaccuracies in the release and provides very continuous motion through the pin deck. As soon as the lanes break down substantially and more length in the heads is required, however, the move to a pearl version such as the Beyond Ridiculous should be made.
