First Impressions
The Radical Intel Pearl Special Edition comes in an attractive purple-blue color scheme with the proven symmetrical Intel core, reinforced by DynamiCore technology. The core numbers show a 2.483 RG and a 0.035 differential in the 15-pound ball. The coverstock is the TP1 (Textured Pearl 1) pearl reactive cover, enhanced with the TP-1 additive. The surface is prepared to 500/1000 Siaair and polished with Crown Factory Compound. This Special Edition combines the original Intel core with DynamiCore technology and the popular TP-1 additive, developed by popular demand following Tom Daugherty's world championship win with the Intel Pearl.
Comparison
Compared to the original Intel, the Special Edition offers more responsiveness and a more continuous ball motion thanks to the TP1 coverstock. The pearlized TP-1 cover from the Results and Conspiracy Theory series delivers more hook than the original Intel Pearl, but stays controlled. As a benchmark ball, the Intel Pearl SE slots between the Radical Bonus Solid and Bonus Pearl and offers a smoother motion than the Bonus Solid. The polished surface and the low-flaring core provide noticeably more length and controlled hook on the backend, and during transition you can keep moving left instead of having to move right as with the original Intel Pearl. The Intel series was considered one of the most successful mid-performance lines, and the Special Edition should continue that trend.
On the Lanes
The ball was developed specifically for medium to heavy oil conditions and should provide excellent length, though testers rated it as a ball for dry to medium conditions. Power players benefit especially from this ball on dry test patterns, since the polished surface and the low-flaring core provide optimal length with a controlled backend hook, with the box finish performing best over the course of an entire session. For optimal performance a benchmark layout is recommended — a 45 x 4.25 x 35 drilling should deliver super smooth motion while retaining the benchmark characteristics and ensures the ball reads the boards at the right time. On fresh medium patterns you may need to play straighter and take the Crown Factory Compound off with a 2000 SiaAir pad. The DynamiCore technology is said to increase hitting power through less compression at impact and to create a clear difference in sound and pin carry.
