First Impressions
The 900Global Infrared, released in November 2016, stands out visually with its completely solid, deep red color, underscoring its place in the "Tour Preferred" series. Inside works the symmetrical Scope Core, which provides stable and predictable rotation. This core is wrapped in the S62 Solid Reactive coverstock. The surface comes out of the box with a 4000 grit NEAT "T" Pad finish, creating a dull but not extremely rough texture. This combination of a symmetrical core and a solid cover immediately conveys the impression of a classic benchmark ball, one built not for maximum hook angle but for control and reading the lane.
Comparison
Compared directly to the 900Global Inception Pearl released at the same time, the Infrared shows an entirely different character. Where the asymmetrical Inception Pearl offers plenty of length and reacts very angular at the breakpoint, the Infrared reads the lane considerably earlier and offers a rounded, smooth motion to the pocket. Compared to the Storm Phaze II, the Infrared often plays a touch gentler off the backend and doesn't dig through the oil in the heads quite as aggressively, which makes it more controllable on sensitive lanes. Against its predecessor in the Tour series, the 900Global The X, the Infrared offers a bit more overall hook and an earlier reaction, while retaining that typical forgiveness.
On the Lanes
The Infrared is the ideal ball for medium to heavy oil, especially on demanding sport patterns or "wet/dry" house shots. Its strength lies in smoothing out the lane transition: it doesn't react overly sensitively to dry boards on the outside and doesn't slide uncontrollably through the oil in the middle. That makes it a first choice for reading the lane and controlling the pocket. It's especially effective if you like to let the ball blend rather than force a dramatic change of direction. When stronger asymmetrical balls get too jumpy, the Infrared brings the necessary calm to your game.
