BOWLING BALL INFOS

First Impressions
The SWAG Incredible! Phenom, released in April 2024, presents itself as a powerful addition to California Bowling's popular "Incredible" line. Visually, the ball shows up in a striking purple color scheme that immediately points to its aggressive character as a "Solid" variant. At the heart of the ball works the proven "Incredible Core." This asymmetric core is known for its dynamic numbers, which at 15 lbs come in at a 2.514 RG, a 0.054 differential and an intermediate differential (mass bias) of 0.021. Even sitting still, these figures suggest enormous flare potential and a strong change of direction.

Wrapped around this core is the "UP 1 Solid Reactive" coverstock. Unlike the pearl predecessors in this series, the choice here was deliberately a solid particle structure to generate early traction. The factory setting of 2500 grit (sanded) underlines that approach: the ball is not polished to maximum shine but given a textured surface that serves to dig deep into the oil on the lane. The combination of the torque-heavy core and the tacky cover defines the Incredible! Phenom as a tool for demanding conditions that call for control in oil and a dependable reaction at the breakpoint. In hand, the matte surface immediately conveys a sense of security and stability.
Comparison
Head to head, the Incredible! Phenom positions itself clearly more aggressively than its direct relative, the Incredible Hero. While the Hero, with its "Dazzler 2 Pearl" coverstock and polished finish, was designed more for length and a late, whip-like backend reaction, the Phenom goes to work considerably earlier on the lane. It reads the midlane much more strongly and offers a rounder but still forceful move through the pins.

Compared with products from other manufacturers, the Phenom falls into the category of heavy asymmetric solids. Its performance profile closely resembles that of the Envy by Hammer or the Clone by Roto Grip. Like those balls, the Phenom uses its asymmetry to get into rotation quickly, though it often differs through a somewhat more continuous motion in the final phase. Compared with a Black Widow 3.0 by Hammer, which is known for its extreme angle at the end of the lane, the Incredible! Phenom should be a touch more controllable without giving up overall hook. It is less jumpy on overreaction out at the dry outside edge than many high-performance pearls, which makes it a logical addition for bowlers who already own a polished asym ball and are now looking for something for fresher, oilier conditions.
On the Lanes
The ideal application for the SWAG Incredible! Phenom is lanes with medium to high oil volume (medium-heavy oil). Because of the 2500-grit surface, the ball needs a certain amount of oil in the front part of the lane so it doesn't burn up energy too early. That makes it a first choice for the start of a league night or a tournament on fresh oil.

If you throw the ball fast (speed-dominant), this ball is especially valuable, since the traction of the UP 1 Solid surface should keep the ball from sliding through the breakpoint, instead braking reliably and turning toward the pocket. If you have a very high rev rate (rev-dominant), you may find that the ball is almost too strong on standard house patterns; in that case it makes sense to adjust the surface to 3000 or 4000 grit to store energy a little longer.

A decisive advantage of the Phenom is its reaction to carrydown (oil pushed into the back part of the lane). Where weaker balls or polished pearls might start to slide, the Phenom keeps the necessary friction thanks to its aggressive cover, ensuring a powerful entry into the pins even on dirty backends. Once the transition sets in, however, and the heads dry up, the bowler should switch to a ball with less surface roughness (such as the Incredible Hero) to avoid losing energy in front of the pins. In summary, the Incredible! Phenom is a classic benchmark ball for heavy oil that combines forgiveness with high hitting power.
