First Impressions
The SWAG Incredible Giant shows up in a deep, solid black that immediately projects a serious, no-nonsense attitude on the lane. Inside works the asymmetric Incredible core, which at 15 lbs delivers a 2.513 RG, a 0.050 differential and a 0.018 intermediate differential. Those numbers point to strong core dynamics that, thanks to the slightly higher RG, don't start up right at your feet. The cover is the Reverie 4 (RVR 4) pearl reactive material. Unlike many pearl balls, which are often polished to a high shine, the Giant comes out of the box with a 4000-grit sanded finish. This combination of pearl chemistry and a matte surface is intriguing: it promises the length of a pearl paired with the traction through the midlane needed to keep it from sliding through the oil uncontrolled.
Comparison
Compared directly to its sister model, the SWAG Incredible X, which uses a shiny polish over the same core platform, the Giant goes earlier and rounder. Where the Incredible X often shows a very sharp skid/flip reaction at the breakpoint, the Giant uses its 4000 finish to read the lane more smoothly and avoid overreaction. In philosophy it resembles the Storm Phaze II, but the asymmetric core gives it a bit more torque at the end of the pattern. Compared to a pure solid monster like the SWAG Big Bro Jacked, the Incredible Giant offers more length and stores a little more energy for the pocket, but it's more into the friction than typical house balls like the Brunswick Rhino.
On the Lanes
The SWAG Incredible Giant is an excellent choice for medium to heavier oil conditions. Thanks to the matte pearl surface, it's a master at smoothing the transition from the wet to the dry area ("blending the pattern"). It works very well as a first ball out of the bag when you're looking for a bit more length on fresh lanes than a pure solid gives you, but don't want to give up safety through the midlane. It lets you open up your line a little without worrying about the ball swimming away in the oil. If the lane dries up considerably over the course of a set, though, the 4000 surface could start working too early; in that case, a switch to a polished ball like the Incredible X or a SWAG Geek would be advisable.
