First Impressions
The Storm Incite X, an international release from September 2022, comes in a cool color combination of Aqua, Navy and Royal. Inside works the innovative Tensor core, which is technically classified as asymmetric but was designed to close the gap to strong symmetrical cores. At 15 lbs it delivers a 2.50 RG, a 0.053 differential and a 0.013 intermediate differential. These numbers point to strong flare potential without the extreme restlessness of some high-end asyms. The real upgrade over the original Incite lies in the coverstock: here the NRG-2 Hybrid Reactive is used, a noticeably stronger chemical base than the R4S material used before. The surface is finished with a 1500-grit polish, which gives the ball clean length through the heads despite the tacky nano chemistry.
Comparison
Compared directly to the original Storm Incite (Goldenrod), the Incite X comes across as potentially earlier and grabbier in the midlane thanks to the NRG-2 shell, even if the polish masks that somewhat visually. It handles more oil than its predecessor. Bring in the Storm Dark Code and the Incite X is a bit rounder in its motion; the Tensor core doesn't tip over quite as aggressively as the Dark Code's RAD4 core, which makes the Incite X more controllable. Against a purely symmetrical ball like the Storm Phaze V, the Incite X offers more torque at the breakpoint through its intermediate differential and stands up faster, which improves the entry angle into the pocket when you have to play deeper lines. Performance-wise it sits right between the big "tanks" like the Proton PhysiX and the pure skid-flip balls.
On the Lanes
The Storm Incite X is an excellent choice for medium to slightly oily lane conditions. Thanks to the NRG-2 hybrid cover it has enough teeth not to float on the oil, while the polished surface keeps it from burning up energy too early. It is ideally suited as a "benchmark asym": when the lane is fresh but not flooded, it lets you open up the boards without fear of sliding too far. Its strength lies in the transition, when pure solids hook too early but you still need the security of an asymmetric core to guarantee carry. It reacts quickly to friction, yet stays predictable enough to be used on more demanding sport patterns as well.
