First Impressions
The Brunswick Igniter Pearl comes in an attractive teal-and-white design with a pearl finish and is billed as the successor to the popular Edge series. Technically, the ball uses the proven Brink Symmetric core from the Jagged Edge line, wrapped in the Relativity 3.0 Pearl coverstock. The specs list a 2.508 RG and a 0.043 differential in 15 pounds, which means higher RG and moderate differential. The factory surface is worked with 500 and 1000 Siaair Micro Pad plus Crown Factory Compound. Brunswick rates the ball in the Advanced/Flip category with a reaction strength of 69.
Comparison
Since the Igniter Pearl uses the same Brink Symmetric core as the Brunswick Jagged Edge series, it offers a familiar basic character, but with the updated Relativity 3.0 Pearl cover instead of the previous coverstock versions. In a direct comparison, the ball reaction is strongly reminiscent of the Radical Squatch Hybrid, which points to a similar path down the lane. Against the Igniter Solid, the Pearl is a clear step down with roughly one arrow of difference, since the higher surface on the Solid forces you further inside. Within an arsenal, it competes with balls like the Brunswick Melee Jab for the mid-late slot and sits above weaker balls such as the Brunswick Rhino.
On the Lanes
The Igniter Pearl should work particularly well on broken-down lanes and gets through the heads easily. On house shot conditions it proves to be a good choice especially in the summer, with reasonable length and comfortable access to the breakpoint. Its specialty is the smooth but strong arcing motion. As a mid-level ball, it suits bowlers who want to move up from entry-level reactive balls without being overwhelmed by too much ball reaction. It shows its strengths on lighter oil patterns, and it works as a go-to option when the lanes dry up and stronger balls read too early. Despite the mid-level price point, it offers surprisingly strong performance and is considered one of the best values for the money.
