BOWLING BALL INFOS

First Impressions
The Big Bowling Solid Idea comes with an asymmetric F.R.E. Response Core combined with the E8 Reactive coverstock in a solid version. The specs show a 2.495 RG, a 0.045 differential and a 0.017 intermediate differential at 15 pounds. The factory surface is sanded to 3000 grit, giving the ball a moderate baseline aggressiveness. The "E" in E8 stands for "Early," and the 8 represents a scale from 1 to 10, underscoring how early the cover is ready to react. The Forward Rolling Ellipses core shape was developed specifically to produce continuous and predictable ball motion.
Comparison
Big Bowling describes the Solid Idea as an "oil hungry beast," thanks to the combination of the proven core with the stronger, earlier-reacting E8 Reactive coverstock. Compared to the pearl version of the Idea, which uses the EP5 Reactive cover and carries a hook rating of 5, the Solid Idea should respond considerably more aggressively to oil. This E8 solid cover is unique in the current bowling landscape, which makes a direct comparison to other manufacturers difficult. While balls like the Storm Phaze II or the Hammer Redemption Solid show similar asymmetric characteristics, the Solid Idea's special cover system places it in a segment of its own between medium and heavy oil balls.
On the Lanes
The ball should be ideal for medium to heavy oil patterns and should already provide enough traction at the 3000 grit factory surface to handle tough, oil-heavy patterns. If you have a higher rev rate, you'll find a reliable partner here for fresh lanes, while strokers can also expect a predictable reaction from the continuous core motion. The factory surface still leaves room for further surface adjustments on especially heavy patterns. The Forward Rolling Ellipses core should help control wet/dry situations and allow for clear lane reads. The Solid Idea can play to its strengths particularly in the transition from medium to heavy oil volumes, offering both early hook and sufficient carry in the pocket.
