First Impressions
The Roto Grip Hyper Cell Skid stands out in a classy black, gold and red pearl look. Inside works the extremely strong asymmetric Nucleus Core with a 2.520 RG, a massive 0.056 differential and an intermediate differential of 0.018. For the cover, Roto Grip relies on the highly polished 73H Pearl Reactive. This combination of the enormous asymmetric core and the low-friction shell should let the ball clear the heads effortlessly and save all of its energy for a massive, asymmetric kick on the backend.
Comparison
Compared directly to the regular Roto Grip Hyper Cell, which uses an extremely dull solid cover, the Skid behaves very differently through the heads and offers a drastic, angular backend motion. Against the Storm Snap Lock, the Hyper Cell Skid delivers considerably cleaner length, but builds a similarly powerful hook at the breakpoint thanks to the massive Nucleus engine. When friction on the lane is high and transition dries up the front part of the lane, the Skid preserves its energy exceptionally well.
On the Lanes
The Roto Grip Hyper Cell Skid is best suited to lane conditions with medium oil volume. For strokers and if you throw the ball at moderate speed, it offers the chance to play deeper lines, since the cover saves energy while the asymmetric core provides the massive response off the friction. The enormous drive toward the pocket should deliver convincing carry. On fresh, extremely heavy oil, however, this ball can lack traction because of the polished finish. It's a weapon for opened-up angles.
