First Impressions
The Storm Hy-Way arrives as an Asian special release in a classy pearl finish that is built for performance. At the heart of this model beats the famous Inverted Fe2 Technology motor, with a medium RG of 2.570 and a strong differential of 0.046. The outer layer consists of a polished R2S Pearl Reactive coverstock, brought to a high gloss at the factory. This combination of the dynamic, slightly delayed motor and the low-friction pearl surface should let the ball glide extremely cleanly through the heads and build a very strong, angular roll phase in the backend.
Comparison
Compared to the legendary Storm Hy-Road with its hybrid cover, the Hy-Way grabs noticeably later thanks to its pure pearl cover and offers a considerably more angular, sharper reaction at the breakpoint. Next to the Storm Pitch Black, the Hy-Way delivers a completely different, far sharper and longer skid phase. When friction on the lane is high and the transition dries up the front part of the lane, the Hy-Way benefits enormously from its pearl cover. It wants dry boards at the breakpoint to release its dynamics into the pins.
On the Lanes
The Storm Hy-Way finds its preferred territory on medium lane conditions. It is the perfect choice if you need a ball on broken-down patterns that slides easily through the heads and creates a steady, snappy hook toward the pocket. The late reaction helps you hit the breakpoint reliably from deep angles. The ball should maximize carry with a strong drive. On extremely heavy oil, however, this ball can lack traction because of the polished cover.
