BOWLING BALL INFOS

First Impressions
The Hy-Road Max comes with the proven Inverted Fe2 core in a higher-RG orientation, which makes the ball more resistant to changes of direction as it travels down the lane. The specs for 15 pounds show a 2.57 RG and a 0.046 differential. The core is wrapped in the NeX Solid cover first introduced in the Axiom, with a 3000-grit Abralon factory surface. The eye-catching Emerald/Lime design with green apple scent gives the ball a distinctive look.
Comparison
Compared to the Storm Axiom, the Max shows a controlled, smooth backend motion that covers fewer boards — it is clearly a step weaker. The Max uses the strongest cover (NeX Solid) of any Inverted Fe2 core ball to date and creates noticeably earlier traction as well as more hook in the midlane and backend compared to the All Road with an identical drilling. The Axiom's NeX cover has become a reference point that nearly replaces the Storm Phaze II in significance — the solid cover can grab early and still stay responsive on the backend. The unique motion through the entire lane is reminiscent of the Storm Reign of Fire.
On the Lanes
The NeX Solid cover should slow the ball down and get it hooking on medium oil volumes. Thanks to the 3000 Abralon surface, the ball grabs the lane very early and is extremely smooth at the breakpoint — you should reduce your speed and send the ball out to the friction so it can recover. If you have higher ball speed and lower rev rates, you'll prefer the Max in its factory surface, while for lower-rev players a polished surface change is definitely preferable to the factory finish. The ball proves useful on longer, heavier patterns when playing straight, and it can tone the motion down if more spin is applied. On a fresh 3000 surface the cover may be a bit too strong, but natural lane shine adjusts that quickly — misses in hold less well, while misses out show surprisingly large recovery back.
