- Hustle RN (Royal/Navy)

First Impressions
Released in May 2022, the Roto Grip Hustle RN (Royal/Navy) is an exclusive international release (overseas) that is harder to find in Western pro shops, but it wins you over with its specific characteristics. Visually, the ball comes in a plain but effective "Royal/Navy" color scheme that doesn't take any big risks. The decisive feature is the surface: unlike many Hustle models that arrive polished (such as the Wine or Camo), the Hustle RN comes out of the box with a rough 500/2000 Siaair finish. Technically, it is built on the proven symmetrical Hustle Core (RG 2.53, diff 0.030 at 15 lbs) and the VTC Solid Reactive cover. This combination of matte finish and solid cover makes it one of the highest-traction balls in the entry-level class.
Comparison
The Roto Grip Hustle RN is essentially the spiritual successor (or the international counterpart) to the extremely popular Roto Grip Hustle PBR. Like the PBR, the RN uses a sanded solid surface, which clearly sets it apart from balls such as the Roto Grip Hustle Wine (pearl, polished) or the Hustle Camo (solid, but polished). While the Wine and Camo are built for length and a sharp backend reaction, the Hustle RN reads the lane considerably earlier. It offers an extremely round, smooth motion without the aggressive snap at the end. Compared to the Roto Grip Hustle USA (hybrid), which is also matte, the RN often comes across as a touch earlier and calmer in its reaction thanks to the pure solid cover.
On the Lanes
The Hustle RN is a fantastic control ball for light to medium oil. Thanks to the 2000 finish, it works excellently on freshly oiled lanes with lower oil volume or on shorter sport patterns, where stronger balls would hook too much but shiny balls react too erratically (over/under). It is the perfect choice for taming friction. It doesn't skid through the pattern; instead it builds traction early and rolls in a controlled way to the pocket. If you have a high rev rate, it is often the only ball you'll need on dry lanes; if you have less axis rotation, it gives you the security on drier lanes that the ball won't wait until it's in the gutter to grab.
