First Impressions
The Roto Grip Hustle POW (Pink/Onyx/White), released in November 2016, brings color and performance to the entry-level segment (HP1 line). Visually, the bright pearl blend catches the eye immediately and looks very clean on the lane. Inside works the symmetrical Hustle Core, which comes with a moderately high RG of 2.53 and a low differential of 0.030 (at 15 lbs). These numbers point to a stable, controllable rotation that isn't prone to burning up early. The core is wrapped in the Pumped Pearl Reactive coverstock, finished at the factory with a 1500-grit polish. This combination of a weaker core and a shiny pearl cover promises maximum length through the heads and a reaction that only comes into play late down the lane.
Comparison
Compared directly to the hybrid models released around the same time in the series, the Hustle PRO and Hustle SAY, the Hustle POW goes noticeably longer. Where the hybrids read a bit earlier and move more roundly thanks to their solid content, the POW glides effortlessly through the first two thirds of the lane and shows a more defined, sharper move at the breakpoint. Compared to a classic entry-level ball like the Storm Tropical Surge, the Hustle POW offers a considerably more potent core that also works better at the pin deck and is less prone to deflection. Against the Roto Grip Wreck-Em, which sits one step higher, the Hustle POW is tamer and needs more dry area to hook effectively.
On the Lanes
The Hustle POW is the ultimate weapon for dry to medium-dry lanes (light to medium oil). It shines especially when the lanes are burned and stronger balls jump too early. For tournament players it's the ideal burner ball for late blocks, since it ignores the beat-up heads and only reacts down the back, where friction is still available. For beginners it offers great control, as it forgives mistakes in ball speed and doesn't shoot uncontrollably across the lane. It definitely needs friction out to the outside, though; in heavy oil it often floats too long and doesn't reach the pocket at the optimal angle.
