First Impressions
The Roto Grip Hustle BMS (Blue/Magenta/Snow) continues the popular entry-level series with an eye-catching pearl version. Visually, the ball comes in a mix of blue, magenta and white, giving it a fresh, dynamic look on the lane. Inside works the proven symmetrical Hustle core, known for its slightly higher 2.53 RG and a moderate 0.030 differential (at 15 lbs). These core numbers promote clean length through the heads and keep the ball from burning up too early. The core is paired with the VTC Pearl Reactive coverstock (Versatile Traction Control). Out of the box the surface carries a 1500-grit polish (often Reacta Gloss), which makes the ball very smooth and helps it ignore friction in the front part of the lane. It is clearly built for length and a defined but controllable backend reaction.
Comparison
Head to head, the Hustle BMS behaves almost identically to the Roto Grip Hustle Wine, since both are based on the same VTC Pearl cover and the same core. The main difference is purely cosmetic. Compared to the Roto Grip Hustle USA, which has a hybrid shell and a rougher finish, the BMS goes noticeably longer straight down the lane and reacts more sharply to the dry boards at the end of the oil pattern. Against the Storm Tropical Surge series, the Hustle BMS offers a bit more core dynamics and more overall hook, while still remaining very forgiving. It is weaker and cleaner than the Roto Grip Hustle Camo or the Hustle RIP, both of which start up earlier with their solid shells and produce a rounder motion.
On the Lanes
The ideal use for the Hustle BMS is light to medium oil conditions or lanes that have already seen a lot of play. When the heads lose oil and stronger balls give up their energy too early (burn up), the BMS shows its strengths. It glides effortlessly through the first few feet and saves its energy for the pocket. For beginners it is an excellent first ball, since it forgives mistakes at the release and shows an easy-to-read ball reaction. Advanced and tournament players use it as a "burner ball" when the transition sets in and you have to move well left to get the ball through the dry heads without it overreacting on the backend. It provides enough carry to mix the pins effectively even from steep angles, as long as there is enough friction on the backend.
