First Impressions
The Roto Grip Hustle 3TP shows up as a Purple/Violet/Plum (3-Tone Purple) bowling ball with striking three-color looks. This ball uses the proven Hustle Core with a radius of gyration of 2.53 and a differential of 0.030, combined with the VTC-P18 pearl reactive coverstock finished at 1500-grit polished. The VTC-P18 pearl reactive surface was first used on the Winner and immediately became a fan favorite. The symmetrical Hustle Core, with its medium RG and low differential, offers the perfect combination for a controllable backend reaction.
Comparison
Compared to the rest of the Hustle line, the Hustle 3TP, just like the Hustle Au, should provide the most length with more backend reaction thanks to the pearl surface. The Hustle 3TP is the most skid/flip-oriented of all the current Hustle models and once again packs a lot of performance into a ball at a low price point. While the price point might lead a buyer to assume it's a light-oil ball, the Storm Tropical Surge is the better choice for that application. Testing against the Hustle Au Pearl and Hustle RAP showed all three within a board or two of each other, with the difference lying mainly in the color options.
On the Lanes
The Hustle 3TP should skid through light to medium lane conditions and store energy for a strong backend finish. This ball gives bowlers a weaker option for dealing with very dry house shots, or for when the lanes break down and you want to stay farther right, especially if you have a low rev rate. This ball isn't intended for heavier or fresh lane conditions, but once the lanes break down a bit, it really shines. Typically you'd use it on a shot where there is plenty of friction on the outside parts of the lane, or on a house shot that starts to burn up after a lot of games — ideal for league play and also great for beginners. If you have a lot of power, this ball lets you stay right instead of reaching for urethane, while straighter players will need to close down their angles to get movement for better carry.
