First Impressions
The Lane Masters Hellfire Flame is a pearl ball designed for medium to heavy oil volumes. Visually, the ball comes in its characteristic red and orange flame tones. The specs show a USY 1 Pearl coverstock paired with the Powerpack symmetrical core, with a 2.512 RG, a 0.051 differential and a 0.000 intermediate differential at 15 pounds. The combination of the Powerpack core with the medium strength level of the sanded pearl coverstock should provide additional midlane traction and more predictability down the entire length of the lane. The technical data point to a controlled yet still reactive ball that, thanks to its low differential, should produce a smooth but continuous motion.
Comparison
The ball motion of the Hellfire Flame feels more like that of a low-differential ball, which is interesting given the moderate differential numbers. The ball reads the midlane strongly and doesn't stop there, instead continuing its path to the left. Compared to other pearl balls in its class, the Hellfire Flame shows remarkable continuation in its motion. Where other pearl balls often display a sharper backend reaction, this ball is defined by a smooth but continuous shape. Unlike typical high-end asymmetrics such as the Storm Phaze II or the Roto Grip Halo, the Hellfire Flame offers a less aggressive but more predictable reaction for bowlers who prefer control over pure aggressiveness.
On the Lanes
The ball is very clean on heavy oil and provides a nice, even trip through the heads with a powerful backend move off the pattern. It should prove itself especially as a down-and-in ball, while players who like to play up the boards can benefit as well. The Hellfire Flame is clean and smooth through the heads and midlane, and with the corresponding speed and rev rate it retains enough rotation to drive to the pocket and hit hard on the backend. It keeps enough energy to go straight through the pins with little to no deflection. For bowlers with medium rev rates and moderate speeds who are looking for a dependable ball for a variety of oil conditions, the Hellfire Flame offers an excellent balance of length, control and backend motion. Its strengths come through especially on lane conditions where both length and controlled hook are called for.
