First Impressions
The Roto Grip Hectic catches the eye immediately with its deep purple and black pearl design. At the center works the symmetric Late Roll 51 core, which shows a medium RG of 2.530 and a solid differential of 0.043. This core is wrapped in the 50M Pearl coverstock, finished with a glossy 1500 grit polish. This combination of a late-rolling core and a matched pearl cover should let the ball glide through the heads extremely easily and produce a very late but enormously sharp move toward the pocket.
Comparison
In a direct comparison with the Roto Grip Hustle PRO, the Hectic offers noticeably more backend reaction and a stronger overall hook, since the differential of the Late Roll 51 core is higher. Put up against a ball like the Storm Pitch Blue, the Hectic shows a completely different world of reaction, with massively more length and an extremely sharp hook. Once the transition sets in over the course of a game and the boards have dried up, it tends to save its energy for the last moment and then react aggressively to the friction.
On the Lanes
This ball is a specialist for dried-up to medium lane conditions. It is the perfect choice for playing the deep lines at the end of a long league night, when the oil in the heads is used up. You benefit from the fact that the ball does not overreact or start up too early. The symmetric core should maximize carry through the late hit. As soon as the lane holds a lot of oil, though, the Hectic has to be swapped out, since it completely lacks the traction and simply skids through.
